Keyboard Number Pad and PCB Design
Designing a number pad in Solidworks, and a custom PCB in KiCad.
Creating a keyboard has always been a goal of mine, but the prototype cost can be prohibitively expensive. Some friends were discussing availability of polycarbonate numpads and how there were not many out there. I knew this would be a great project to test my mechanical design abilities and showcase some of my keyboard design in a smaller form factor.
The constraints were pretty straightforward: polycarbonate, use a PCB that was on-hand from another hobby member. The rest was up to me. Design wise, I mimicked a keyboard I had already been working on, but much smaller.
Here are some renders I made of the design, followed by some prototype pictures.
A more in depth design process is available on the Blog.
